JBIG (Joint Bi-level Image Experts Group):
.A group formed in 1988, to establish a standard for the progressive encoding of bi-level image data. JBIG is also the name given to the codec created by this group. Also known as JPG 2000.
JFIF (JPEG File Interchange Format):
A minimal file format which enables JPEG bitstreams to be exchanged between a wide variety of platforms and applications.
Jaggies:
Individual pixels displayed in an image with low resolution. The appearance of pixels in an image cause lines and curves to look jagged.
JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group):
A file format developed by this group for compressing full-color bit-mapped graphics. JPEG has become the most popular and well-known image format. As such, it is supported by all image viewers including ACDSee digital camera software.
JPEG Compression:
A file compression standard established by the Joint Photographic Experts Group that uses a combination of DCT and Huffman encoding to compress images. JPEG is a "lossy" compression algorithm, meaning that it slightly degrades image quality.
